This week was pretty slow. We had a lot on our plate with schooling and FTC competitions. However, we made some progress on the vex robot
Objective: Finish Internal Gearing
In this meeting, we picked off from where we left off on Friday. We swapped the stripped drivetrain motors with our lift motors. Luckily, since the lift was modularized, it was an easy swap.This time, we spent extra time to ensure the screws would not strip. By reflecting on our past mistakes, the change occurred smoothly
Objective: Improve the intake
-Use Rubberbands: By using rubberbands, we'll get a less secure mount, however due to it's light weight, the lift can raise more relaibly. Its also faster to create
-Use metal: By using metal rails, it'll be more secure, but heavier. Increased weight will stress the motors. Takes longer to create
Decision: We decided to go with rubber bands. In the past, the material didn't let bucky balls roll out.
Task: We took 1 x 25 metal, folded it into an L shape, and mounted it on the intake system. We then attached rubberbands from the 1x25 bar to the mouth of the intake
There was a major schooling and robotics overload today. We took today even slower.
After the meeting, the robotics members tutored each other to relieve the load
Objective: Determine any Flaws with the robot
The stand off bracing is loose often. Because of this, we determined that we need to add more standoffs in other places
The large ball storage is very wobbly. We need to find a way to reinforce the storage without inhibiting bucky balls or large balls
The robot may be too fast to control. So we'll set the robot to a slow setting, then add a fast button
Aftermath + Future Plans
Once we fix those issues, the robot should be mechanically finished and we can tackle driver practice and autonomous hard. We'll use the time we have now to modify the autonomous program, however once we get a controller, we'll get a ton of driver practice in.
For autonomous, we'll stick to the bucky ball strategy and try our best to target 1 or 2 large balls
With driver control, we'll focus on manipulating large balls first. At first competition, very little teams had large ball manipulators. Because of this, we believe our ability to manipulate large balls will make us stand out.
Our goal is to finish all mechanical work by the 4th of January
